A road that connects history, culture, and people

The 117km trail between Matsumoto and Takayama is connected by ancient roads and highways rich in nature and history, crossing mountain passes and straddling the Hida Mountains (Northern Alps) designated as Chubu Sangaku National Park. Utilizing these historic roads and highways, the redeveloped trail opened in 2025.

Stretching from town to town, this route offers a variety of enjoyment, including breathtaking scenery, the birthplace of modern mountaineering, and the townscape at the foot of Mount Hida, woven together by people and nature.

Guided Tour

Shinpi is an abbreviation of the Shinshu and Hida regions, and this trail connects the two towns of Shinshu Matsumoto and Hida Takayama, which are located on either side of the Japanese Alps, known as the roof of Japan, with an ancient road that people in the two regions once walked across to interact with each other. The tour below starts in Matsumoto and ends in Takayama, but it is also possible to organize a tour in the opposite direction.
