The Shinpi Trail is a long trail of approximately 117 km that connects Matsumoto Castle Taikomon Gate in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, and Miyamae Bridge in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture. We will introduce the starting and ending points (terminus) and access information for each section.

Park your car at the Hirayu (Akandana) parking lot, then take the Kamikochi bus or taxi to Kamikochi. (Approximately 30 minutes)

Take a bus bound for Shinhotaka Onsen from Takayama Nohi Bus Center (in front of Takayama Station) and get off at the "Nakao Kogen-guchi" bus stop. (Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes)

Between Matsumoto and Takayama
Direct bus
A direct bus service operates between Matsumoto Bus Terminal and Takayama Nohi Bus Center. The journey takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Walk
There are also ways to access the Shinpi Trail using highways and traverse routes. For example, you can walk from Nakasendo to Zenkoji Kaido to Matsumoto, then take the Hida Kaido to Takayama, or traverse the Northern Alps via Mt. Yari and TokugouPass.
By taxi
We recommend making a reservation in advance for travel to mountainous areas. Jumbo taxis may be available depending on the number of people.
Matsumoto area (Shinshimashima and Sawando area)
It is convenient for accessing Kamikochi and trailheads (such as the TokugouPass entrance). Recommended for those who cannot use public transportation at the scheduled time or who want to avoid crowds.

Private car access is restricted year-round in the Kamikochi area. Furthermore, Kamikochi is closed during the winter months (mid-November to mid-April), and bus services are suspended. Please check the official Kamikochi website for details.
