Section 2: Precautions when walking between the islands and TokugouPass
Traffic regulation information
SECTION 2

This section requires extensive mountaineering experience, proper equipment, and careful planning, as it involves long hours of hiking and lacks escape routes. Furthermore, rescue may take time to arrive in the event of an accident or illness. Please review the following before starting your hike.
Due to a landslide last year, a bypass trail has been set up between Futamata and Iwanadome Hut. This may add approximately 20 minutes to the published course time. Also, please be careful as there are sections with unstable footing.
• There is a risk of falling rocks in the section from the islands to TokugouPass. Wearing a helmet is recommended for safety.
TokugouPass Hut will not open for business until July. Until then, there are no places to resupply food and other necessities between Shimashima and Myojin. Also, camping in tents in front of TokugouPass Hut is prohibited until the hut opens for business.
・There is virtually no cell phone reception in most areas from the islands to the vicinity of TokugouPass. Please prepare plenty of water, food, warm clothing, rain gear, a headlamp, a map, etc., and plan your hike with ample time to spare.
If you plan to stay overnight in Kamikochi, please check the check-in time and final arrival time of your accommodation in advance and plan a reasonable itinerary.
For the reasons stated above, this section is designated as a course for experienced hikers. Beginners to intermediate hikers are advised to participate in a Shinobi Trail guided tour for safety reasons.
