Shinpi Trail Through-Hike starts from the city of Matsumoto (Takayama), involves crossing three mountain passes, walking by old paths including mountain trails where people in Shinshu and Hida used to come and go before the mortalization. Crossing mountain passes sections offer you challenging hikes with an elevation difference of more than 1,000m.

The trail over Tokugo Pass follows a clear stream flowing from the beautiful Japan Alps, while the one over Nakao Pass offers a close-up view of the spectacular figure of Mt.Yake, an active volcano.

Through the trail, you may appreciate the attitude of the people in Matsumoto and Takayama to live in awe and reverence of nature, Kamikochi, one of Japan's leading mountain scenic spots, hot springs that are the blessings of the volcano, and a culinary culture that makes the most of the region's natural bounty.
