This is a 2-day healing hike following the 'Hirayu Kaido' (a historic route) once walked by onsen visitors. The course starts from the Grand Torii Gate of Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine. You enjoy the countryside scenery along the Nyukawa as you walk through the satoyama (rural mountain foothill landscape), and learn about the local history at the Forest Aquarium. the next day, you embark on a challenging mountain pass hike from Honokidaira over the Hirayu Pass. Passing through the old route surrounded by a primeval forest, you arrive at the famous Hirayu Onsen. This is a soothing journey with bathing and strolling, where you rediscover Japan's traditional onsen therapy culture in modern times.
