This course starts from Matsumoto Castle, follows Shimasima Valley, crosses Tokugo Pass to Kamikochi, and heads to Okuhida Onsengo via Nakao Pass. It is known as the "Historic Kaido (historic route)", where once people have used in travelling between Shinshu and Hida. Connecting mountains and towns, this route was also walked by literary figures, mountain ascetics, and early mountain explorers. Shrines, stone Buddha statues, and historic trail markers still quietly remain along the way. This journey involves a walk that transcends time, passing through quiet forests, being healed by spring water, and feeling the wind at the pass. Beyond the pass, steamy onsens in Okuhida await you, offering an experience that relaxes both your mind and body. This is a trail rich in history and nature that traces the memories of the "path" that remain in modern times.
