This is a 2-day or 3-day mountain hike that crosses Shinshu and Hida via the "ancient trail", Tokugo Pass and Nakao Pass, known as the historic routes that once connected Matsumoto and Takayama. This route crosses Tokugo Pass from the Shimashima side to enter Kamikochi, passes through Myojin, crosses Nakao Pass, and leads to Okuhida and Nakao Kogen. This is the same path once walked by Walter Weston and Ryunosuke Akutagawa, and also a path where spir, tuality meets everyday life as it was once used by Somabito (foresters) who lived in the mountains. This is a Japanese footpath where human life and mountain culture interwine.
